Artist's Comments

I took this photo back in 1992 while visiting Poland. It shows the entrance to the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp.

The words above the gate boldly state in German "Arbeit Macht Frei" which roughly translates as Work Brings Freedom. Unfortunately, that was the farthest from the truth.

The Gates to Hell by ~AG88
Today is the Holocaust Memorial Day - the day to remember all victims of the Holocaust and Nazi persecution. It is the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp - Auschwitz-Birkenau by the Soviet troops. (Suggested by ~TaliN07 and Featured by `hesitation)

Very nice composition, and idea. And the title is very fitting. Nice work.

Reach for the stars, and you just may reach the moon.

In all truth, no one is 'normal'. But you see, there lies the normality of it all.

Thank you. That was a very emotional place to visit.

Sorry - I looked at the other photo first. So you did take a pic of the gate as well.
Well the black and white photo is giving this place (I don't know how to say it)... more truth? More emotion... maybe?

Thank you. I remember being almost reduced to tears at the sight of flowers everywhere from people remembering their loved ones. I went there over 50 years after the last person died in the camp, but still their were dozens and dozen of bouquets of flowers. It was so touching.

And there always be flowers there. We can't forget and we won't! :)
:iconag88:
Nor should we.

Moving shot. I feel so terrible for the people that ended up there, but I feel worse for those that died. They'd done nothing wrong, but Hitler's hate made that not matter one bit. The title is also fitting, and I'm glad you made this a print. I think if people purchase it, they'll always remember how cruel people can be.
