For two years I lived in a tiny town in Germany called Gersfeld. It was near the Wildflecken, Army Post.
One day while mountain biking I came upon an old abandoned castle. There was nobody around. In American a structure that was hundreds and hundreds of years old would be protected, but this little outpost was just sitting along the bike trail.
I think it was then that I realized how much history this country had. These little castles were probably a dime-a-dozen.
